Nancy Reck Herink

RIDGEWOOD - Nancy Reck Herink, 76, died on April 7.

She was born and raised in Union City. She lived in Rutherford as a young bride and moved to Ridgewood 50 years ago to raise her family. She received her bachelor's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a master's degree from Kean University. When her children were old enough, she went back to school and earned, with straight A's, a master's degree as well as a doctorate from Columbia University. She was an associate professor at Green Mountain College and also taught for many years at Felician College. She taught and advised many students, preparing them for a career in the field of special education. After retiring, she continued her passion for education by tutoring a Korean ESL group in the English language and American culture. She was the author of the acclaimed, "Natural Recipes for Children," a cookbook of healthy recipes that can be prepared by and for children. She also researched and wrote "East Hampton Elite: Celebrity Guide," which was published under the pseudonym, Melody Mavis Martin. She was an active member of the Women's Club of Ridgewood, as well as the College Club.

She is survived by her husband, Richie, her children, Paul, Jennifer and husband, Bob Helm, and her grandchildren Christina, Austin, Bobby, Noah, Sophie and Daisy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus, 400 Warren Ave. in Ho-Ho-Kus.
