William Standish of West Milford age 93

WEST MILFORD — Services were held for William C. Standish Sr., 93, of this township, who died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012.

Born in Cedar Grove, Mr. Standish lived in Port Charlotte, Fla., before moving to West Milford. He was an electromechanical engineer working for and consulting with various companies. Also, he was a design engineer on various U.S. and Canadian Naval projects and on Minuteman silo projects. He was president of the Port Charlotte Chapter Deborah Hospital Foundation for six years and a member of the BPO Elks and Knights of Columbus.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Unit Citation, the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and an Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart, among other decorations.

Services were private.

Mr. Standish is survived by his son, William; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; and his sons, Charles Troll and Joseph Troll.
