Irving Kamil Obituary

KAMIL
Irving, 86, of Cliffside Park, was a teacher, assistant principal and principal in the New York City school system for 41 years, retiring in 1990.
A graduate of Townsend Harris high school, he attended City College before being drafted and graduated from Central Methodist College, MO. He also held a Masters degree from Columbia University Teachers College.
He was a World War II US Navy veteran, a former member and president of the Cliffside Park Board of Education and a long-time member and former president of Temple Israel in Cliffside Park.
He is survived by his wife, Selma, a brother, Philip, of Fort Lee, a son, Jan, and his wife, Janet Lazar, of West Orange, two daughters, Rowena Gianfredi, and her husband, Richard, of Allendale, and Shira and her husband, Brian Rathjen, of Newton, four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be Monday at 11 AM at Gutterman-Musicant 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ with burial following in Cedar Park Cemetary, Paramus. Donations may be made to Temple Israel, Cliffside Park.

In 1986, Mr. Kamil gave a young musician a career opportunity by hiring him as the band director at I.S. 74. Twenty seven years later, I'm still fulfilling my passion as music director at 74. I am forever grateful. My deepest condolences to Selma and family.
