Dora Stern

Dora (nee Warshawsky), proprietor and owner of Hoboken Antiques, died on March 6, 2012 at Hoboken University Hospital.
She is survived by Arnold, her beloved husband of 67 years, her daughters Katherine Stern of Croton, New York and Michelle Shepherd-Barron of Cambridge, England and her three grandchildren: Georgie Landy, Mackey Landy and Elizabeth Shepherd-Barron.
A resident and champion of Hoboken since 1976, she was born in New York in 1924. She graduated with a degree in Sociology from New York University and her career included helping to develop the nation's first Scholastic Aptitude Tests, Public Relations Director for the Mental Health Association of Bergen County, and Truant Officer for Pascack Valley Regional High School. She was a talented painter with a keen eye for design, and an avid interest in antiques led to the establishment of her successful shop on Hoboken's Washington Street, which she ran until shortly before her death. An informed and generous supporter of the arts, she was Docent at the Newark Museum.
A service for Dora Stern will be on Saturday, March 10th, 1 PM at the Lawton-Turso Funeral Home, 633 Washington Street, Hoboken, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to: The Hoboken Public Library, Building Fund, 500 Park Ave, Hoboken, NJ 07030.
