John P. McGurn

John P. McGurn, 58, passed away peacefully in his home on January 19. A resident of River Edge, NJ, for 28 years, John was born on March 12, 1962 in Tampa, FL. A graduate of Northern Valley Regional High School, John went on to earn his BS in math from Providence College and an MBA from New York University. On November 2, 1991, John married the love of his life, Jeany Chin, and together they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Molly. John is survived by his loving mother and father, Mary and William McGurn of Northvale, NJ; his wife; his two adoring daughters; his siblings William, Brian, Janet, Kevin and Anne; his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends; his godchildren— Sarah, Charles and Leslie. And Liz's boyfriend Nicholas Anthony, whom John loved as a son.

John was a simple man who loved listening to country music, enjoying a beer, mowing the lawn, going down the Jersey Shore and spending time with friends and family. He lived for his children and was very involved in their activities, particularly basketball, and never missed a game. For John everything was about family, beginning with his bride of 30 years. John was a man of great faith and was involved in Respect Life, HSA and Parish Council at St. Peter the Apostle parish.

John was a devoted husband and outstanding father. He will be missed dearly.

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. Our children went to school together at St. Peter's and we worked together on the Parish Council. John will be missed, his kindness, compassion and bright smile filled the room around him. He was a very proud father and husband and my thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and daughters. May he Rest in Peace in God's arms. - Much Love, The Sidle Family

Jeany, Bill, Mary and the entire McGurn family - it’s been many years since I’ve seen you but I will always remember the love between John and his wife Jeany, whom I remember back from their dating days. You both seemed to fit just right. John was always so friendly and kind and easy to be around. I know you must all be heartbroken by the loss of your husband, father, sibling and son. My love especially to Bill and Mary, as the loss of a child must be a pain almost unbearable. Much love, Helen Amend Hoffses
