Barbara Thiele Obituary
Barbara Thiele

Barbara Thiele died July 23 at an assisted living facility in Suffern, NY. She was 75. As a minister's child, she lived in Iowa, New Hampshire, Philadelphia, and Texas, before her family settled in Wyckoff, N.J. She had a home in Waldwick, N.J., prior to her death.

Barbara was the salutatorian of the Ramapo Regional High School Class of 1960. She was graduated magma cum laude from Mount Holyoke College in 1964. Barbara worked as a coder for the government research facility Lincoln Labs in Bedford, Mass. She received her masters in library science from Rutgers University in 1971. She was Library Director in Franklin Lakes, N.J., and spearheaded the building of a new library there. She then took advanced courses at Oxford University in England. Barbara next joined the state library system of Virginia and was responsible for establishing the use of computers in the state system.

She wound up her career as Library Director in Westfield, N.J., and supervised the building of their new library. She is survived by her brother Barrett Thiele of Redhook, N.J., and her sister, Pamela Thiele, of Lakewood, Colorado. Her parents, Rev. Clarence Thiele, former Bergen County chaplain, and Narcissa Ranseen Thiele, former Ramapo Regional High School English teacher, of Wyckoff, N. J., predeceased her.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Bronx Botanical Gardens.
