Edward Leddy Obituary

LEDDY - Edward H. Jr., formerly of Hillsdale, NJ, on July, 4, 2006 at the Lakeview Subacute Care Center in Wayne, NJ. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Leddy Sr., brother to the late Doris and Dr. Donald Leddy. The Leddys' were well known for Leddy Fuel and Oil Co. of Hillsdale at the site Wendys' now occupies. Ed leaves a sister and brother-in-law with nieces and nephews throughout the states. Eddy was a former graduate of Westwood High school. While in high school, Ed was recruited to play trumpet with the Charlie Spivak Orchestra at the Paramount Theater in New York City. A trumpet student of William Costello of N.Y.C. Ed had an illustrious musical career. He was solo trumpet with the official Army Band and then became first trumpet with the National Symphony in Washington, D.C. He then went on the road and became one of the most sought after lead players in the country. He played with the Les and Larry Elgart Orchestra. He became lead trumpet for the Stan Kenton and then to the Maynard Ferguson orchestra. He was cited as "THE BEST." Ed has many recordings to his credit having worked with Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan, Conte Candoli and many other great jazz artists. He also played lead for many movies, including Funny Face with Fred Astaire, Audrey Hepburn, Susan Hayward and he also backed up Ella Fitzgerald, Patti Paige, Nat Cole and Frank Sinatra. Services for Mr. Leddy will be graveside at St. Anthony's Cemetery, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY on Monday, July 10, 2006 at 11 AM. Arrangement by Becker Funeral Home, Westwood, NJ.
