Reverend James Gordon DULL Obituary

DULL Reverend James Gordon, Roman Catholic priest, born January 20, 1947, Passaic, New Jersey, passed away in Raleigh, NC on December 11, 2009, following a twelve-day illness. He was surrounded by his loving family, Bishop Michael Burbidge, and several brother Priests. Father Dull grew up in Rutherford, NJ where he attended St. Mary Grammar School and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1964. Post high school graduation he attended Bordentown Military Prep Institute for a year, where he won Cadet of the Year honors. He graduated from the Seton Hall University Divinity School in 1969. Throughout his youth, Father Dull was an accomplished athlete and musician. After completing his studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington, N.J. he was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest for Newark on May 26, 1973 and subsequently served his church at St. Mary's in Nutley, NJ; Oratory Prep School, Summit, N.J.; Our lady of Libera, West New York, N.J.; and Sacred Heart Cathedral, Newark, N.J. After a period away from the priesthood, during which he thrived as a restaurant manager, Father Dull returned to the active ministry for the Diocese of Raleigh, NC. He served a short time at St. Bernadette's Parish in Fuquay-Varina before being transferred to St. Catherine of Siena in Wake Forest NC, where he was appointed Parochial Vicar until his death. Father Dull was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.He was preceded in death by his father, James G. Dull, Sr., his mother, Gertrude Honer Dull, and his brother, Martin Dull. He is survived by a sister, Marya (Dull) Washington and husband James of Richmond, Virginia; a brother Carl Dull and his wife Linda of Rochester Hills, MI; a brother John Dull and his wife Helen of Rutherford, NJ; a sister-in–law, Martha Dull of Cincinnati, OH; several nieces and nephews; and long time friend, Rev. Salvatore A. Busichio. A vigil and mass were held at St. Catherine of Siena church in Wake Forest N.C. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Most Rev. Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Raleigh. Burial took place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Newton Grove, NC.
