Mary Rose Flanagan

Ridgewood - Died November 27, 2018 in Ridgewood, NJ. Mary was born in England in 1925 to Francis Cording and Emma Dorothy (nee Mason) Cording. A sister predeceased her. She grew up in the East End of London and served as a Land Girl (in the British Women's Land Army) during World War II. In or around 2008, Mary received a badge of honor for her wartime service from the then-British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. She married an American war veteran, John Flanagan, who died in 1970. Mary worked for many years as a nursing assistant and child care provider. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Ridgewood, and a member of the Fourth Community of the parish's Neocatechumenal Way. Mary loved to attend the Village's ceremonies on Memorial Day and Veterans' Day. She leaves many friends who will miss her kindness and warm sense of humor. Surviving are two sons and grandchildren. Wake services at Feeney's Funeral Home in Ridgewood, Monday December 3 from 4 pm to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial to take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 am on Tuesday, December 4. Burial will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah. She lived at the Ridgewood Center for the last months of her life and was very grateful for the care and concern provided to her there. Memorial donations to the Sister Lucy Fund at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood would be appreciated.
