Dr. Michael K. Brauer Obituary
Dr. Michael K. Brauer

Dr. Michael K. Brauer, 72, of Oakland, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on December 4, 1945, to Arnold and Gertrude (née Schneider) Mann. After Arnold's untimely passing, Michael was adopted by Gertrude's second husband, Dr. Selig Brauer. A graduate of the Jersey City public schools, Michael received his undergraduate and dental degrees from Fairleigh Dickenson University, after which he was one of a few people selected to participate in Columbia University's prestigious periodontal program. Michael practiced periodontics in Oakland and Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, and was known for his love of the profession and his expertise in dental surgery. He won many awards and garnered many accolades for his contributions to the field of periodontics. He was forced to retire from his beloved practice prematurely due to the progression of symptoms from multiple sclerosis. But his disease never conquered his spirit.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Lila E. (née Silverman); two daughters, Erica A. Navarino (wife of Jason) of Morristown, New Jersey, and Danielle L. Gorshein (wife of Eshai) of Wayne, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Sadie R. Gorshein, Maya H. Gorshein, Eden Michal Gorshein and Jacob T. Navarino; a sister, Karen Stein of Studio City, California; a brother, Charles Brauer of Lexington, Massachusetts; and his loving aide of 16 years, Tomaz Tavadze of Waldwick, New Jersey.

Funeral services will be held at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel in Paramus, New Jersey, on Monday, April 9, 2018, at 11am, followed by internment at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Michael's memory to the New Jersey Metro Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
