Reginald Frederick Hopkinson ESQ.

Reginald Frederick Hopkinson ESQ., 87, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, died April 22, 2018 at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. He was born July 17, 1930, in Paterson, New Jersey, the son of William Percy Hopkinson and Mary Gray Stewart Hopkinson.

From 1959 to the present, Reg was a senior partner in the law firm of Jeffer, Hopkinson & Vogel, located in Hawthorne, New Jersey. He was a trial lawyer with experience in commercial litigation, medical malpractice, product liability, and environmental law. He was also a seasoned appellate advocate with a number of appearances before various appellate courts, including the New Jersey Supreme Court, where he had effectively argued a number of reported, landmark decisions. He was admitted to the Bars of New Jersey and Florida, and authorized to practice before the Third Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Claims, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Reg graduated from Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania in 1951. Following graduation, he served as a first lieutenant with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict until 1954 and was in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves through 1960. He received his Juris Doctor in 1958 from the Law School of the University of Pennsylvania. Reg was a member of the American Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, and Passaic County Bar Association. He served as attorney for the Planning Board of the Borough of Bloomingdale and the Boards of Education of the Boroughs of Hawthorne and Fair Lawn. He also served as attorney for the Board of Education of Ramapo-Indian Hills Regional District and the Board of Education in Glen Rock. He was General Counsel to Charles H. Kiline Inc. in Fairfield New Jersey and Brussels, Belgium.

In 1957, Reg married Alice Marie Frutchey and they settled in Smoke Rise, Kinnelon, NJ until 2010 when they semi-retired to Tequesta on Jupiter Island in Florida. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 22, 2017.

While he was residing in New Jersey, he was a member and vestry member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Kinnelon, N.J. as well as a member of the Rockaway River Country Club. During the time he was residing in Florida, he was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Tequesta, and the Jupiter Inlet Colony Beach Club. He had been a member of the Hobe Sound Golf Club.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Nelson, and his brother George. Surviving, in addition to his devoted wife, Alice, Reg is survived by his daughter Barbara Hopkinson Kelly and her husband, Kevin Kelly of Cranbury, NJ., his son R. Ronald Hopkinson and his wife Sue Sackett Hopkinson of Aspen CO and his daughter, Susan Hopkinson Fishman, of San Francisco, CA. Reg was also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, Ryan Kelly, Allison Kelly, Oliver Hopkinson, Haley Hopkinson, Macy Hopkinson, Alexandra Fishman, Cameron Fishman, and Peter Fishman.

A Memorial Service and Interment will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, May 25, at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 400 Seabrook Road, Tequesta, FL. A reception will follow at the Jupiter Inlet Colony Beach Club, 200 Ocean Drive, Jupiter Inlet Colony, FL.
