I had a dream about Dr. Lon last night. He was my pediatrician beginning at age 2, and the only physician my mother ever completely trusted to take care of me. He was also a huge influence in my life. Having no doctors in my family, my only exposure to medicine at an early age was through my interactions with Dr. Lon. I knew from a young age I wanted to be a doctor just like Dr. Lon. Today, as a second year medical student, I can only hope to show the same compassion and care to my future patients. In my dream, I got to shadow Dr. Lon as part of my medical school training. He then showed me a collection of drawings and books that I had made in his office as a kid. RIP Dr. Lon, you will be missed tremendously. I never got to thank you for the lessons you taught me that I will carry with me for the rest of my career. My condolences to the family. I could not believe my ears when I heard that Dr. Lon unexpectedly passed away. My daughter has been under his care for so many years and came to know this seemingly stern but outstanding doctor. I have no words but only praise for his medical skills and devotion to his profession. Our loss could not be replaced for a long time to come and every time our daughter needs medical care, we will keenly feel the loss and the vacancy. May his soul rest in peace!

I was shocked to hear about Dr. Lon's passing. I spent the past 21 years of my life having him as my Pediatrician and don't think any other Doctor will ever live up to his legacy. I am truly still saddened. No matter how sick I ever felt, as soon as I walked into his office I felt calm, and incredibly taken care of. Dr. Lon was truly one of a kind. He was not just a pediatrician to us, but a friend. Not only did my entire family go to Dr. Lon for years, but my Aunt and Uncle and Cousins did as well. Dr. Lon was the sweetest, most caring, special man that we will all truly miss. Our condolences go out to his family and all the other children and families he took the best care of like ours.

We just got to know and my family and I are heartbroken to hear that Dr. Lon is not with us anymore. I am so sad and feel like crying. I just saw him a couple of months ago for my kids check ups. He was my kids pediatrician from their birth onwards and my son is now 14, while my daughter will be 16 in October. I remember when my first child was born and he came to my hospital room and he took her in his hands and that moment I knew that my child is in good hands. He was an amazing and decent person and very professional. He was a wonderful person with a lot of knowledge. I always appreciated him on our every visit because he always gave us comfort. He was very knowledgeable, trustworthy , kind, and a dedicated doctor. My condolences and prayers are with his family. Dr. Lon, you will be deeply missed by so many people. A great doctor and a great guy !

Dr. Lon was truly one of a kind. He was an exceptional physician with a conservative practical approach. Not an alarmist and could put any mother at ease. He will be sorely missed as a physician and a friend.

I would just like to say that I've read through so many entries in this guest book and can echo everyone's sentiments.... he was just wonderful. I've known Dr. Lon since he came to my hospital room when I had my first child in 1991 (she's now 26 years old). That kind and gentle way of his made me know that I wanted him to be my new baby girl's doctor. He took care of all three of my children. There was no question that we looked forward to having Dr. Lon as pediatrician for the next generation. We're heart-broken. Prayers up Dr. Lon and blessings to the family.

Dr Lon was the only pediatrician my two kids, 10 and 9, have ever had. He was a wonderful calming presence for first-time parents. We'll all miss him greatly. When my daughter was learning how to speak she misspoke his name as Doctor Nob and it's a sweet funny memory we'll always share of a sweet man. Best wishes and sincere condolences to his entire family.

I just learned of Dr Lon's passing. We are all so saddened by this news. He was the most caring, compassionate person and had a perfect way to adjust his consultation as my 3 kids grew up over the more than 10 years we were with his practice. I also think of his staff, his nurse who has been with Dr Lon for more than a decade. We miss her too and hope she finds healing over time as well as his friends and family. Dr Lon leaves us with a lifetime memory of good in this world!

Doctor Lon was our Pediatrician for almost 20 years. Truly amazing man. When I got the news, I was so very, very saddened by his passing. As I write this now, I still can't believe he is gone. There can be so many unknowns in parenting, but Dr Lon always made you feel at ease with any silly question or situation. I just always thought my kids were in good hands. What a sense of peace he gave us all.

To his loved ones....take with you that he was an irreplaceable gift to my children and to me. He will be dearly missed. My heart goes out to you. You are in our prayers.

My family and I are absolutely heartbroken over the news of Dr. Lon's sudden passing. We were first acquainted with him when he was part of a pediatric group in Millburn, prior to opening his Hilltop Pediatric practice. His care of my then baby daughter was so exceptional that we didn't hesitate to follow him when he left after a short time to establish his own practice. Throughout the many years, he treated both my daughter and younger son with such wonderful care, attention and medical expertise. He was always accessible to us whenever needed, including evenings and weekends, and gave us his undivided attention at all times. He would even answer the office phone himself if Nancy (his office manager) or one of the nurses wasn't available!! He was truly one of a kind. As a parent, he never made me feel uncomfortable or silly asking any questions I had. His easygoing, calming and gentle manner always shone through in any given situation. We stayed with his practice until my daughter was 23, probably beyond the time we should have, but it was so difficult leaving him, and we knew he would never dismiss her as a patient. Although it's been six years since then (and my daughter is having her own baby now), my 25 year old son responded to the sad news of Dr. Lon's death by saying that he still does and will always think of Dr. Lon as "my doctor". Our deepest condolences go out to his family, and may he truly rest in eternal peace.

He was more than a doctor. He was family. Always there with the perfect advice, attention to his many patients. This was his calling not his job to be there for us and our children. He was an amazing man, doctor that can never be replaced. Raising a special needs child is always a challenge. My favorite piece of advice that he gave me as a parent was, " I can tell you as a pediatrician and what the textbooks will tell you to do, but then I don't go home with you and you have to do what works for you at home." Always teaching without making you feel like you did the wrong thing as a parent. Whatever worked for you, it was ok. I was lucky to have known him for 21 years, my children were lucky to have grown up with him as their doctor and in his care. We will miss him!!!

I have been a pacient of Dr. Lon for 16 years. The news of his passing just reached us today and we are all in shock. He was one of the most caring person I have ever known. He had such a kind heart and I just wish I could thank him one last time for being such a big part of my childhood.
June 11, 2017
We are truly heartbroken with Dr. Lon's passing. I am also in disbelief as he was young and healthy. I will miss him terribly. He was my pediatrician, my confidant and a wonderful human being. He always listened nonjudgmental and guided me through the difficult times of parenting my teenagers. I will forever keep his wise words in my heart "avoid giving away your power", "establish clear boundaries" "use assertive and effective communication" "maintain humor and show empathy" "give your sons time to solve problems and experience natural consequences" . But most importantly, he kept me focused and always listened to me, and coached my children. We we also miss his caring office staff who are warm, welcoming and friendly.
It will be very difficult to replace Dr. Lon. We are devastated and very sad with the news. He is in our prayers.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Dr.Lon's passing. We moved to Short Hills about 10 years ago and Dr. Lon was recommended to us by one of the parents. Since our very first visit, we felt very comfortable with Dr. Lon. He always showed a genuine interest in caring for his patients and I had the peace of mind that my kids were in the best hands possible. We miss you deeply Dr. Lon, you cannot be replaced!

I called Dr. Lon's office this morning to schedule my son's 3 year physical and was totally shocked to hear the news that he passed unexpectedly a few weeks ago. I am so saddened by this news & am still in disbelief!
Dr. Richard Lon was an amazing doctor & above all truly cared for his patients. I was lucky enough to have my son in his care from the day he was born. It didn't matter how many times you called or when... weekends, holidays, 10 times in one day, he was always super accommodating & made himself available. I actually looked forward to Shawn's next wellness appointments & imagined he would see him grow up into the football player he said he would be. We've lost a great man. Life is not promised to anyone. May he rest in eternal peace!

My family and I will miss Dr. Lon immensely. He was my childhood pediatrician, and since then I have never had a doctor as kind, patient, knowledgeable and sensible as him. I remember always leaving his office feeling brand new, no matter how sick I was, because his comforting demeanor had a way of healing. Dr. Lon did not just treat his patients - he taught them. I have learned so much from him and will remember him always.

Dr. Lon, you truly set the bar high for all doctors (and humans) on this earth. Thank you for everything you've done for my sisters and I.

We will miss Dr Lon immensely. He's been our pediatrician for 8 years. I went to him after an anonymous recommendation on the Hoboken moms board. After seeing 3 doctors, he was the first to suspect that my son was suffering from a milk allergy. The other pediatricians thought I was crazy, but Dr. Lon didn't. He was right, my son was allergic to milk. My kids loved him and I trusted him so much, we will never be able to find another doctor like him. Heaven got a good one:(

Dr. Lon was an incredible Pediatrician and person. I trusted his opinion above all. I even called him on May 22nd after I found a tick in my foot & asked him for advise. I then asked if I could be a patient of his. Dr. Lon, you will truly be missed. You had such a way about you that was kind and gentle, strong. A perfect trait for dealing with children and neurotic moms too. We are deeply saddened by your passing.

I am sure that I speak for all of his patients when I say that Dr. Lon was a truly amazing physician; not just in his craft, but in the manner to which he cared for his patients. No concern was ever too insignificant for Dr. Lon to lend aid to, and he made himself extremely available to me whenever I needed him, be it away at college or in a moment of crisis. Beyond Dr. Lon the physician, there is Dr. Lon the man, and I so adored the moments in our appointments when we would deviate from medical discussion and talk about music (especially salsa music). Being a musician myself and Dr. Lon being an avid fan of salsa music and dance, we always enjoyed such rich conversation about art. I will deeply miss him as both a physician and a person. You are in my prayers and may God bless you.

Dr. Lon was my pediatrician growing up, and I could not have been more happy to return to him when I had my daughter two years ago, this time bringing her as the patient. Dr. Lon was a straight-shooter, yet always treated each question (even the silly, "new-mom panic" questions) with attention and respect. He was compassionate and accommodating. His unfaltering dedication came to the forefront of each and every interaction. Truly, he was in a class of his own. My whole family is saddened by his passing. I'm grateful that we had the opportunity to see him one final time, only a few weeks ago. Our sincerest condolences. Dr. Lon will surely be missed by us and by many, but may he rest in peace knowing that he has left a beautiful legacy behind.

I will miss this wonderful man for the rest of my life. He was such an important part of my children and my life. He was my go to whenever I was worried. He knew I was always a worrier but he never made me feel like my worries were not warranted. I hope he knew how much we needed him in our lives. He will be missed for always. My son started with him and he died on my sons birthday. It is such a wonderful day for our family as well as a day that will always be remembered by Dr. Lon. Peace in heaven my friend.

Dr. Lon was a wonderful, compassionate and kind pediatrician. He was a great clinician and diagnostician. No question or worry was treated as trivial or unimportant. He was honest and straightforward, and ready to teach with a medical reference or article.
We and my sons are so saddened by his passing. They have been with Dr. Lon for over 15 years. They are now young adults and wanted to stay with him to the last possible year they could. He always treated them with respect and maturity. He made himself available whenever they needed to see him, even giving them his personal cell phone number.
Thank you Dr. Lon for being such an important person in our lives. We will miss you immensely! We will miss comparing notes with you about the great restaurants on Staten Island.
May God bless you and may you rest in peace.
Our prayers are with the family and those close to Dr. Lon, that they will be comforted and heal with time.

We are in shock at this terribly sad news... trying to comprehend this loss... Richard Lon was our doctor for twenty years, he was an important part of our lives as our older sons grew from birth through college... my youngest at 14 can not imagine that Dr. Lon will no longer be his doctor. Dr. Lon always used to joke with us that our kids were too healthy and he never could make enough money from them..... But one Christmas Eve, when my parents were visiting us from out of town, my middle son was home from college and very sick with high fever... I called Doctor Lon's number and he called back within 10 minutes to care for us..... My father could not stop commenting for the rest of his visit about our wonderful pediatrician who would call us back so quickly on the night of Christmas Eve.... I am crying....

Our entire family is shocked and saddened. We just found out today, calling to schedule an appointment. Dr. Lon has been our trusted pediatrician since 1992. His unwavering commitment to our kids through all the years was a tremendous benefit to their health and our sanity. They don't make them like Dr. Lon anymore, and he will be missed by his patients.

Dr. Lon was our pediatrician for the last 16 years. He came highly recommended to us and took my family in at a time when he was not accepting new patients. He was an endearing, caring physician who used to joke that he did not recognize my girls because they were hardly sick. We just saw him on May 15th for their check-ups..at a later hour because he always accommodated me as a working mom. He also always took my calls and called me back if I had questions about anything. My husband also recently ran into him and a retail store...we are so saddened but feel a drop of peace that we all got to see him over the last few weeks. He and his family will remain in our thoughts and deepest condolences to Dr. Lon's family.

Dr. Lon was the most amazing pediatrician in the business. I was blessed to be referred to him 16 years ago when my son was born. He made it possible for me to be a working Mom by taking Saturday and Sunday appointments and giving me his personal cell phone number to shoot over questions or concerns about my children's health. He responded every time and was a calming force. My kids are so sad. I don't even know how to replace him (nor do I want to). His passing is a major loss for anyone who knew him- may you rest in peace Dr. Lon.

Rich was an esteemed colleague and friend. Over the last 25 years I found him to be very caring and attentive to the needs of the patients we shared. Had the honor and pleasure to know Richard when we were students at Rutgers. He showed every indication then of the prince of a man and doctor he would become. He was very proud of his Polish heritage. As a student preparing for the medical profession, he set an example for us lesser scholars to follow. It is no surprise to read here the accolades of his pediatric patients' parents. His shining countenance no doubt will be missed by all who he touched in this life.
