Rosemarie Crawley Andre Johnson Obituary
Rosemarie Crawley Andre Johnson

Mrs. Rosemarie Crawley Andre Johnson, 90, passed away on July 2, 2018 at Greenhill in West Orange, NJ, where she lived for the past five years. During retirement, Rosemarie lived summers in Claridge House in Verona, NJ and winters in Hillsboro Beach, FL, but she was primarily known as a longtime resident of Montclair, NJ.

Rosemarie was born on October 17, 1927 in New York City, NY to John J. Crawley and Lillian B. Crawley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband William C. Andre, her second husband Howard P. Johnson, brother, John J. Crawley, Jr., and sister-in-law, Mary Alice Ughetta.

Rosemarie grew up in Scarsdale, NY and on Shinnecock Bay in Hampton Bays, Long Island where she developed a love for sun, salt water and ocean breezes. She graduated from Scarsdale High School and Georgian Court College in Lakewood, NJ. In 1951 she married William C. Andre and began her family with a move to Montclair, NJ where she raised six children. "Rose" became a well-known realtor in the Montclair area, first for Howard P. Johnson, Inc. and later with Stanton & Co. Realtors, having accumulated over 30 years in the business.

Rosemarie was also an active volunteer in the Montclair Junior League, "The Stepping Stone" handicraft shop on Church Street and a long-standing parishioner of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. She has a gift with yarn and was a master knitter and needlepoint artist for much of her life. She was also known, on occasion, as the "party girl" as she loved to entertain and decorate homes. Her true passion however, was just sitting in the sun and eating chocolates.

Rosemarie is survived by her six loving children: Denise Ford Judson (George) of Rio Verde, AZ, John F. Andre (Peggy) of Montclair, NJ, Cathryn Andre Miller (Scott) of Santa Fe, NM, Robert C. Andre of Glen Ridge, NJ, Charles B. Andre of Ft. Lee, NJ, and Julie Andre Lund (Bart) of Verona, NJ as well as her brother-in-law, James R. Andre (Nancy) of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by three stepchildren: Maggie Johnson Sliker of Upper Marlboro, MD, Sydney Johnson Petty of Annapolis, MD, and Howard P. Johnson, Jr. of Mount Airy, MD; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 32 Lakeside Avenue, Verona, NJ on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose's memory to the Portsmouth Abbey School Library, 285 Cory's Lane, Portsmouth, RI 02871 (Phone: 401-683-2000) would be greatly appreciated.
