BURNS
Robert J. 89, of Hasbrouck Heights formerly of Jersey City passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016. Born in Jersey City on March 17, 1926 to the late Helen and John Henry Burns. Robert was a graduate of Seton Hall University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a proud Army veteran of W.W.II serving from 1945-1947 in the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment 82nd Airborne Division and a member of the James B. Scarr American Legion Post 106 in Hasbrouck Heights. Before retiring, Robert was a regional sales manager for Industrial Waste Technologies in Oakland. He was a parishioner of Corpus Christi R.C. Church and a member of the Monsignor Fitzpatrick Knights of Columbus Council 7041 both in Hasbrouck Heights. Robert was the first Democratic councilman elected in Hasbrouck Heights and served in the New Jersey State Assembly from 1976-1979. He was a member of the Jeffersonian Democratic Club in Hasbrouck Heights and was a former chairman of the Bergen County Tax Board. Beloved husband of Eleanor (nee Solinski) Burns. Devoted father of Noreen Burns, Neil Burns and his wife Jeannine and the late Diane and Robert Burns. Dear brother of Blanche McGurr. Loving grandfather of Veronica and Stanley. Funeral from Costa Memorial Home Boulevard and Central Ave. Hasbrouck Heights on Saturday, March 19th at 9 AM. Funeral Liturgy from Corpus Christi R.C. Church at 10 AM. Interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation Friday, March 18th from 4-8 PM.
