Dr. Vernon G. Baker

Dr. Vernon G. Baker, age 96, born in Calvert, Texas, formerly of the Township of Teaneck and a resident of Hackensack, departed this life on Sunday August 5, 2018. He was a 1951 graduate of Howard University Medical School in Washington, DC and an iconic "Harlem" physician in New York City for over 50 years. Dr. Baker will long be remembered for breaking racial barriers and the remarkable health care he provided to generations of families. Dr. Vernon G. Baker was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. Preceded in death by his wife Isabelle M. Baker, he is survived by his son Vernon G. Baker, II (Theresa), his daughter Estina Baker, his grandchildren Noble Lee Lester, II, Vernon G. Baker, III, Bianca I. Lester and Stuart D. Baker; brothers Daniel Baker (Gloria), Emanuel Baker (Birdie); sisters Vi'nella Davis (Clifford), Margaret Anderson and Stacey Kimbrough (George). He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends and his longtime companion Dr. Margaret Haynes.

So very sad to read about my cousin, Vernon's passing. Vernon's mother, Bessie and my Father were cousins. We usually spoke on his birthday. Condolences to Vernon and Estina and family members.
