Anne Carol McHugh
Paramus - Anne Carol McHugh (nee Murtha), 73, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2019. Anne was born in Manhattan where she graduated from Ascension School, Saint Alphonsus High School and attended Hunter College. She married the love of her life, Pat, in 1967 and the two built a beautiful and blissful together before his death in 1998. The couple lived in Albany, New York; Paramus, New Jersey; Annandale, Virginia and White Plains, New York. Anne was a human resources professional and worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Manhattan and The Virginian in Fairfax, Virginia. She was a former president of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in Woodbridge, VA and loved living Old Town, Alexandria, northern New Jersey and Newport.
Anne was fortunate to have loved ones from coast to coast with whom she'd share endless laughs. She savored every moment of life, traveled around the world, was a talented cook, gracious hostess and had the rare ability to open her heart and home to family, friends and strangers who became friends. Anne was loved by many, and loved so many, but her greatest joy was spending time with her children Patrick and Andrea, and their respective spouses, Candice and Tim, as well as her three grandchildren Katherine, Patrick and Jacqueline, who she took great pleasure in spoiling. All who knew her will miss her larger than life personality, legendary sense of humor and selfless generosity, especially her surviving siblings John and wife Mary, Edward and his wife Louise, Tom and his wife Pat, and sister Kay. Anne is predeceased by her parents, Anna McKenna of Co. Tyrone, Ireland and Daniel Murtha, of Co. Longford, Ireland, as well as her dear husband, Patrick J. McHugh and her siblings Daniel "Buddy" Murtha, Gene Murtha, Raymond Murtha and Patricia Gurman. Visitation Monday 2-4 & 7-9PM at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell, NJ.
