Lyndhurst - Walter T. "Wally" Purwin, 59, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey (formerly of Jersey City, N.J.) passed away suddenly at home on September 27, 2019. Walter was the loving son of the late Karzmierz J. (Walter) Purwin and Joan M. Purwin (nee Cushman). Walter was born and raised in Jersey City and was a graduate of St. Joseph's Grammar School, Hudson Catholic High School, and St. Peter's College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Accounting. Walter started his career in the Jersey City Public School system in the Budget Office. He spent over twenty years on Wall Street, working as a Chief Accountant with the Bank of New York before returning to public service at Hudson County Community College, a position he retired from in 2011. Walter enjoyed the beauty of the Catskill Mountains and the Jersey Shore, he enjoyed backpacking and camping and was an avid fisherman. Walter was the beloved brother of Dorothy Fucito (Louis), Patricia Purwin, Ronald Purwin (Felicia), Thomas Purwin (Rosemary), David Purwin (Leslie), and Joan Barone (Louis). Walter was the proud uncle of Paul Fucito, Lisa Fucito (Ust), Vanessa Purwin, Nicole Purwin, Tamara Cullere, Anthony Barone, Ashley Purwin, Corey Purwin, Louis Barone, Jay Purwin, Christina Barone. Walter is survived by his great-nieces and nephews, Adrian, Evan, Liam, Sofia, Olivia, Ella, Benjamin, Tyler, Lucas, Sebastian, Ivonne, Ella, and Marckangel. Walter was a devoted Jets fan and enjoyed college basketball games, especially the Duke Blue Devils. His family and friends will miss his unique sense of humor and the delicious foods he enjoyed preparing for family gatherings. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, from 4:00 PM-8 PM at Ippolito-Stellate Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 324 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "MPS Society C/O donations, P.O. Box 14686, Durham NC 27709-4686.
