Peter, of Hillsdale, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 14, 2012.
Peter was born in Portage, PA to Charles and Mary Lutz who immigrated to the United States from Austria-Hungary.
Beloved husband to Mary (Rizzo) Lutz for 63 years.
Loving father to Paula Sullivan and her husband Terry (Beverly Hills, MI); Mari Mills and her husband Robert (Warren, NJ); the late George Lutz.
Peter lived a long and productive life and is the surviving member of his family of fourteen siblings.
Proud grandfather to his grandsons Brian and Kelly Sullivan and his granddaughters Taylor and Emma Mills.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Peter was a member of the country's 'Greatest Generation.' Born of the Depression in Western Pennsylvania's 'Coal Country,' he was a highly decorated veteran of World War II (1942-45) for his unselfish and courageous service during numerous European battle campaigns. Among his awards were the Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and multiple Bronze Service Stars which are awarded for meritorious service and extraordinary heroism in action.
For over fifty years he was a successful entrepreneur and business owner of GARAN Electronics (Elmwood Park/ South Hackensack); Past Grand Knight for the Saint Thomas More Knights of Columbus Council 2188 (Westwood). A devout and lifelong member of the Catholic Church, he was a Lector for more than twenty years for the Parish Community of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hillsdale.
The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinder-kamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Wednesday, 4-8 PM. The family will gather for the Funeral Mass with their relatives and friends on Thursday at Our Lady Mother of the Church, 209 Woodcliff Avenue, Woodcliff Lake, NJ 07677 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ.
