George Georgiadis Obituary

George A., 77, on October 23, 2012 of Mahwah, NJ. George was born on September 18, 1935 in Sidi Slimane, Morocco to Athanasios and Evdoxia (Papaelia) Georgiadis. He joined three older sisters, Sophia, Fanny, and Kalliope. Raised in Karpathos, Greece, he received his formative education there and was later educated in Athens, Greece at Athens Kapodistrian University and in Austria. On February 14, 1982, he married Maria (Skoulos) Georgiadis. For many years, he was the manager of the Stateline Diner in Mahwah, NJ. There, he formed great friendships and earned the respect of his patrons and employees alike. He enjoyed his work, the various people he met, and watching his customers grow up and eventually, bring their own children to the diner. Always quick on his feet, he was an avid soccer fan, looked forward to his trips to see his family and homeland in Greece, was known as being Stateline's resident lottery organizer, but above all, will be remembered as being a father figure to many. George's greatest pride was raising his three daughters, Karen Kalliope, Evie Eudoxia, and Nicole Athanasia, with his loving wife, Maria. Outnumbered by women all of his life, George learned early that "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." He enjoyed spoiling all of his girls, watching them grow up, graduate college, and become smart, loving, young women. George is survived by his wife, Maria, daughters Karen Kalliope and her fiancé Christopher Fasouletos, Evie Eudoxia, and Nicole Athanasia; sisters Sophia (Georgiadis) Pelechrinis and Fanny (Georgiadis) Chrissafis, sister and brother in law Fotini and Nick Pahos, many adoring nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Kalliope (Georgiadis) Bartholomeou. He leaves a legacy that will extend well beyond his life. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1-3 and 6-9 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey. A funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 12 PM at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Paramus, NJ. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
