Mark Cannon Obituary

CANNON
Mark, passed away on January 1, 2014 in Frankfurt, Germany. Mark was born in Paterson, NJ on April 24, 1962 and raised in Wyckoff, NJ. He attended Ramapo HS where he excelled in academics, football and wrestling. He remains Ramapo's only wrestling state champion (148 lbs, 1980). From there he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. Always a high achiever, Mark graduated with distinction while making Brigade Staff and continuing his wrestling career. Upon graduation in 1985, Mark served 5 years in the Army Corps of Engineers in Karlsruhe, Germany, attaining the rank of Captain. Mark would remain in Germany for the rest of his life. After leaving the Army, Mark worked in marketing and product development in the electronics industry for Ersa, Gmbh and Pace Electronics. Mark had six patents and developed products that continue to be used worldwide. His invention of the ErsaScope received the Grand Award for Excellence in 2000. Mark's abilities as an inventor were an extension of his amazing artistic talents. He was a gifted artist and sculptor. His mother, Martha, also a gifted artist, nurtured Mark's talents at an early age. He attended the famous Art Students League in NYC at age 9. He sold his first commissioned oil portrait at age 10. Art would always be an important part of Mark's life. It was art that brought together Mark and his wife Tatjana, a highly regarded artist and gallery owner in Meinhausen, Germany. Together, they experienced life to the fullest, including extensive world travel. The other love of his life was his beautiful daughter Rebecca of Berlin, Germany. Mark also leaves behind a large and sad family in the U.S., including his father Kerry and his wife Eugenia of Orlando, FL, mother Martha Talburt and her husband Lane of Stratford, CT, brothers Kerry Cannon of Norwalk, CT, Stephen Cannon of New Canaan, CT, John Cannon of River Edge, NJ, and sisters Sarah Bouissou of Ridgefield, CT and Julie Wright of Norwalk, CT. Mark deeply loved his large family, including his brothers and sisters-in-law, his seventeen nieces and nephews and more than two dozen cousins. Mark is being brought home and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on January 19th at 3 PM at the First Congregational Church 103 Main St. Ridgefield, CT.

Mark was an extraordinary man widely recognised among soldering technicians due to his world-class inventions as well as his unbeatable charisma. Mark's presence in this world is sadly over now but his encouraging image will long stay with us who considered a priviledge to work and relax with Mark a decade ago.

Mark was a special friend in high school. I can still hear his kind voice all these years later. He was a gentleman as a teenager which is rare. To the Cannon family, I am so sorry for your loss. I pray he is at peace now and that in time you will will find comfort in your memories of him. Know that there are many of us who remember him fondly.

I was very sorry to hear of Mark's death. I last knew him in high-school, where he had a special kind of presence ... a quiet strength and seemed (for an 18 year old) to live a very examined life. I am not surprised that he grew to be such a loving and accomplished man. What a loss to his friends and family. May he be embraced by God's eternal love.

Truly a very sad and difficult time. I lost 2 brothers--one @49 very suddenly and one after 5 years of battling liver cancer. Suddenly or expectedly does not matter when they are a sibling. It is most difficult and never replaceable like a stepmom or stepdad. Your brother sounds like he was a very talented individual.

My deepest condolences to the Cannon family. I had the pleasure of knowing Mark through wrestling. His run to the State Championship was something I will always remember and was able to witness. I was so happy for him and his family. It couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. A gentleman on and off the mat. An athlete and an artist. I still have the drawing of two wrestlers that Mark did, hanging in my house.
