I am only seeing Mr Ameen´s obituary for the first time, 5 years after his passing. He was a great man and I wish I knew about his `real´ life outside of the classroom. I was just a kid and couldn´t fathom he had such a background. What a missed opportunity on my part not to stay in touch. My heart goes out to his family.

Ramsey and I were classmates in high school, where he and I shared many math classes. I feel fortunate that we reconnected on FB, since he has been a wonderful mentor into to world of music and its mathematical roots.

When my little granddaughter was learning about numbers at about 6 years old, she had some ideas about Infinity that she expressed while eating dinner. Ramsey was so amused by her thoughts that he composed a musical piece for her, entitled "Counting with Jordana." We have the manuscript framed in our dining room. So very sorry to hear this sad news. I always learned something from Ramsey and I always thought I had more to learn from him music and mathematics. I heard him play only a few months ago, and I always looked forward to seeing him, even if only for lunch. His passing came as a shock, and I mourn him.
My condolences to his loving family; Mary, Alex (whom I never got to meet) and Amber.

Ramsey and I were new teachers together at The Hudson School in the early 1980s. He was a great colleague and friend. I learned so much from and with him about teaching, learning, thinking, and life. I'm so grateful we re-connected a few years ago.

Ramsey and I only connected casually back when he was playing with Cecil. But in recent years we connected on Facebook and I will always treasure the various personal exchanges we had over that time. His passing fills me with great sorrow and I convey my deepest condolences to his family. - Marty Khan

I first met Ramsey in Harlem in the late 70s at Dianne McIntyre's Sounds in Motion Dance studio while I was a student there. Ramsey and the amazing Hank Johnson would make music that MADE you want to dance harder, braver, beautifully. His music reflected his inquisitive mind, ever-seeking intellect, and wry humor. He introduced me to his sister Dorrie who became one of my dearest friends. Ramsey & I reconnected during the Sounds in Motion reunion in 2012 and he graciously allowed me to interview him in 2013. His insight, his spirit - Ramsey never tolerated fools and yet he could always find something kind to say to me. (smile). Such a generous and special soul - the world is richer because of his presence, his love for his family and music and his heart. I will miss him. My deepest condolences to his entire family. - Robin Wilson

Ramsey and I worked together during the mid-1970s at City-As-School, one of New York City's first alternative High Schools, a school which in many ways was just as much a welcome alternative for its staff as it was (and still is) for its students.
Ramsey was a delight to work with. Talented, friendly, humble, observant, and brilliant, he was a quiet thought leader in a school which valued him highly.
I am shocked at his loss and offer my condolences to his wife, children and extended family and friends.
We are all diminished by his passing, but forever enriched for our having known him.

Ramsey Ameen taught mathematics and computer science at The Hudson School, which i founded in 1978. He was a compassionate, kind and gifted educator.. He often explained math concepts while playing his violin and made learning math understandable and fun. I was so happy to have been able to share memories with him at my retirement party just a few years ago. On behalf of The Hudson School community, I extend my deepest condolences to his family. It was such a privilege and honor to work with Ramsey and create a curriculum that respected and embraced diverse learning styles and personal experiences . Ramsey had a broad vision of what learning really means and taught from his heart.
