Henry Booth Obituary

Henry Robert Booth September 28, 1922 - February 3, 2012 BROOKLYN - Henry Robert Booth, known as Bob, beloved husband of Virginia Booth, died on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Westview Health Care Center. He was born September 28, 1922 in Seattle, WA to Henry and Georgy Landsborough Booth. His great-grandfather, General William Booth, founded the Salvation Army in 1865. His father was in the textile business selling fabrics to tailors all over the Seattle area. In 1930, Bob moved with his family to Bronxville New York so his father could commute to New York City to work in the textile business. In 1942, Bob entered Trinity College. After a year and a half, he was called for service with his Connecticut V-5 aviation group. After completing his Navy pre-flight training at Rensselaer Polytechnic in Troy, New York, he then went to Glenview, Chicago for more Navy flying and training. He received his wings in Pensacola Fl in 1945. Bob loved being a part of the Navy where he flew the Corsair. Bob married his beloved wife, Virginia Wagoner, in 1956. They lived the rest of their lives at Hillandale Farm in Brooklyn, CT. Bob took over operations of his father's business at the farm which was producing hand woven wool fabrics. He opened a retail outlet on the premises which featured a PhotoMetric fitting room (invented by his father Henry) which provided custom tailoring until the mid 1970's. Bob and Jimmie Booth opened The Golden Lamb Buttery restaurant in 1963 in a magnificent barn located on their property where Bob was the consummate host for 40 years. The restaurant is still being operated today by his granddaughter, Katie. Bob is survived by sons, H.Robert Booth Jr. and Darlene Baker of Brooklyn and James Booth and wife Jacqueline of Brooklyn; sisters Joanne Smith of Hanover, NH and Nancy Goodwin of Banner WY; three grandchildren, and adored by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife Virginia Booth, son Todd Whitney Booth, sister Catherine Karlen and twin sister, Elizabeth Hodde. A memorial service will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced. Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson is in charge of arrangements.

bobby and jimmy. we are so saddened by the news of dad's passing. mom and dad were of a different mold. defined by pure kindness, and class . we will truly miss them singing at the lamb and working in the neighborhood. we will cherish the photos and presents from the years passed and we are lucky to have such great memories. all our love.
