Shinji (Sandy) Wakabayashi, 84, of Richmond, BC, died peacefully on September 17, 2021, at the Richmond Hospital.
He was predeceased by his father, Gentaro; his mother, Yasue; and his oldest brother, Tom. He is survived by his brother, Mas; his sister-in-law, Tomi; his niece, Shelley (Lenny); his nephews, Greg (Chheng) and Stacey (Judy); his great-niece and nephew, Erin and Bret; and numerous extended family members.
Sandy was born in Vancouver, BC on August 6, 1937.
Sandy attended school in Lillooet, Tin Cup, and Richmond. After graduating from Richmond High, he held jobs in the construction and lumber industries. He spent the majority of his career as a seine net loft boss at BC Packers and Canadian Fish. He enjoyed his job and had great admiration for the fishing industry and the people who worked alongside him. Sandy retired in 2002.
Sandy enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Canucks fan. He had a passion for horse racing and enjoyed his many outings to the local casinos with his family. In recent years, Sandy very much appreciated and enjoyed the great support he received from his niece, Shelley and his nephew, Greg, along with their spouses. He especially looked forward to his weekly breakfast dates with Greg, where they solved the world's problems!
Sandy was a quiet man but wasn't shy to express his opinions when people didn't display common sense! He was very thoughtful, always sending his simple greeting cards with succinct messages and, of course, some cash!
He will be missed!
With respect to Sandy's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
