MARY ELLEN ARNDT (NEE BUSSELL) LAKE COUNTY, IN Mary Ellen Arndt (nee Bussell) age 94, a lifelong resident of Lake County, died peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Mary Ellen was an active member of the Dyer United Methodist Church, Tri Kappa, and St. John Women's Club. She was an avid reader, played a mean game of bridge, and loved playing golf. She and her late husband, Fred Arndt, spent several of their retirement years as snowbirds, enjoying the sunshine and golf courses in Stuart, Florida, while the snow fell at home. However, when they grew older, Mary Ellen and Fred moved back to Indiana to be close to family. Mary Ellen will be remembered fondly as a bright ray of sunshine, who greeted each day with a big smile, asking, "What are we doing today? " She was never short of energy, loved showering her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with affection, and was always the first to arrive (and last to leave) any party. Her genuine love of life was inspiration to all who knew her. She was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Nancy Hardesty of Highland with whom she resided during her final years; a son, Steve (Barbara) Arndt of Syracuse, NY; a sister, Ruth Louise (Harry) Edwards of Munster; sister-in-law, Jeanette Arndt of Crown Point; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family, all of whom loved her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., (one-half mile south of US 30) Schererville, IN with Rev. Ken Puent officiating. Cremation preceded the service. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Please visit:
