Dorothy R. Posavec (nee Yazvec) HAMMOND, IN - Dorothy R. Posavec (nee Yazvec), 89 of Hammond (Hessville), passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Posavec who passed away May 15, 2014; loving mother of Steven (Marilee) Posavec of Littleton, CO, Janice (Joseph) Pazanin of Whiting and Joanne Posavec of Fridley, MN; cherished grandmother of Rachel Posavec of Hammond (who was also her caregiver), Stefanie (Steve) McInerny of London, England and Sara Coff; adoring great grandma of Rowan Gift, Anthony and Sylas; dear aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rudolph (late Ann) Yazvec and James (late Rita) Yazvec and a sister, Evelyn Atherton. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 9:15a.m. at the BARAN FUNERAL HOME, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Hessville, with the Rev. Charles A. Mosely, officiating; entombment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00p.m.; wake service at the funeral home Tuesday at 4:00p.m. Dorothy Posavec was born on February 22, 1928 in Whiting, Indiana to James and Mary Yazvec and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. She was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1946 and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Hessville. Dorothy met her beloved husband, Joe Posavec at Madura's Danceland in Whiting and the two enjoyed 65 and a half years of wedded bliss together. An award winning photographer, Dorothy was a member of the Chicago Area Camera Club Assoc., the Photographic Society of America and the 3H Camera Club of Munster for 42 years. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid Chicago White Sox fan. She participated in "Swimnastics" at the YWCA of Hammond and was an ardent bowler for many years at Townhouse and Plaza Lanes. Later in life she developed and interest in quilting, stitching her first quilt at the age of 70. Devoted to her family, Dorothy will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to either the Alzheimers Foundation or to Humane Indiana (Calumet Area Humane Society), would be appreciated. (219)659-4400
