Hazel Bieker (nee Nicholls) SCHERERVILLE, IN - Hazel Bieker (nee Nicholls), age 96, of Schererville, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Hazel is survived by her children: Sue (Paul) Beck of Schererville, John Bieker of Crown Point, Dr. Mary Bieker (Frank Conkling) of Evansville, and Debra Bieker of Crown Point; grandchildren: Pamela Fowler, Edward (Cindy) Beck, Lori(Nicholas Cerise) Beck, Kevin Beck, Cindy (Lee) Waterbury, Brenda Fry, and Elizabeth Conkling; great-grandchildren: Jenna and Nick Beck, Drew and Kyle Fowler; Siena and Hunter Cerise, Miracle Phillips, Justin Tolle, Alexis Griffey, and sister, Joan (late Gene) Skinner of Rensselaer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Elmer; infant son, William; parents: Edward and Jessie Nicholls; sisters: Edna Nicholls and Frances Nicholls; brothers: Charles and William Nicholls. She was born in Crown Point, IN September 10, 1921. She attended elementary schools in Crown Point and graduated from Crown Point High School in 1939. Hazel and Elmer were married on May 14, 1946, in Crown Point and moved to a Wisconsin dairy farm. In 1961 they moved back to Crown Point. She and Elmer lived in Crown Point until his passing in 2009. She then lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Schererville, IN until her passing. Hazel was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Crown Point, where she had been an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters. She was also a member of the Lake County Farm Bureau Co-Op. She loved to read books and the daily newspaper, Cardinal birds, and Chicago sports teams. She also enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends at the Crown Point Civic Center. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, March 11, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at GEISEN FUNERAL, CREMATION & RECEPTION CENTRE, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307. Funeral Prayers will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 9:45 AM at GEISEN FUNERAL, CREMATION & RECEPTION CENTRE, CROWN POINT, IN, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet St., Crown Point, IN 46307, with Fr. Pat Kalich officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Crown Point, IN.
