Henry V. “Cappy” Caprous, 93, Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away November 3, 2013. He was born March 6, 1920 to Lawrence and Madge Caprous. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Jean Eaton Caprous; sons: Lawrence E. (Donna) Caprous and Dennis Vale (Ellen) Caprous; daughter, Barbara Jean (Richard) Myers; grandchildren: Julie Lynne (Harold) Miller, Angela Marie Ayre, Lauren Stacy (David) Hamaty, Andrea Caprous, Jason (Megan) Myers, and Jennifer Myers; great grandchildren: Ryan and Jessica Miller, Ashley and Adam Ayre, Zachary and Hannah Caprous, Scott and Sarah Hamaty, Teagan and Cole Myers; and his step-grandson, Luke Balash. Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters: Nettie Schmidt and Esther Birdsong; and grandchildren: Anthony Vale Caprous and Stacey Mae Myers. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Peggy Caprous. Henry was a World War II Navy veteran serving in Guam and Okinawa, earning two Bronze Stars. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation’s Burns Harbor Safety Department and was a former operator of the Blue Bird Motel and Restaurant. Henry was a lifetime member of the Valparaiso Elks Lodge #500; American Legion Charles Pratt Post 94; Porter Masonic Lodge as a 32 degree Master Mason; South Bend Scottish Rite Lodge; Shriners International; Orak Shrine Temple; Shrine Temple Guard; and the Loyal Order of Jesters of the Shrine. A memorial service will be held at Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso Friday, November 8, 2013. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 PM. Funeral service at 6:00 PM with Masonic and Elks services.
