Myrene Liverett Steele VALPARAISO, IN - Myrene Steele (nee Liverett) age 95 of Valparaiso passed away peacefully on March 30, 2018. Myrene Steele was born on December 13, 1922 in Walla Walla, WA to the Rev. Adam Reid Liverett and Lola Viletta McNeely. Married in 1946 to her beloved husband, the late Rev. Dr. Ralph Samuel Steele, together they provided a life of service to the United Methodist Church at Bethel Church, Indianapolis (1949-53); Danville Church (1953-57); Grace Church, South Bend (1957-64); Hammond First Church (1968-75); and First United Methodist Church, Valparaiso (1975-80) and (1984-89). Myrene was a member of PEO for 55 years, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the local hospital. She was known on the book-talk circuit for her Erma Bombeck programs, which took her to the states of Illinois and Michigan as well as Indiana. A graduate of Butler University, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, she worked at the Boston Public Library while Dr. Steele was in graduate Divinity school. In retirement, she and Dr. Steele continued to minister through Educational Opportunities Travel Program as Indiana Regional Directors. She leaves behind her loving children Richard (Leah), John (Carol) and Janet; her grandchildren Justin, Matt (Mary), Lauren (Jason) Frey, Lesley (Kyle) West, Angela, and four great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Dr. Leon McNeely "Neel" Liverett (late Jane) of Hilton Head, SC and brother-in law Lowell Wesley Steele (Jean) of Fairfield, CT. She was preceded in death by her brothers Adam Reid (Elsie), Wilbur Maurice "Maury" (Alice) and Elwyn Moystn (Helen). A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso, 103 Franklin Street, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso. Private interment at Angelcrest Cemetery. Moeller Funeral Home handling arrangements.
