Raymond A. Joyce CHESTERTON, IN - Raymond A. Joyce, age 74, of Chesterton, IN passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Janice; two sons, Eric (Veronica) of Gilbert, AZ, and David (Kirsten) of Chesterton, IN; four grandchildren, Jordyn, Logan, Phoebe, and Luke; one step granddaughter and two step great grandchildren; one sister, Lillian (Ronald) Miles; one nephew and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Sr. (Lillian) of Portage, IN. Raymond was born on November 23, 1943 in East Hartford, CT and grew up in Aetna/Miller. He graduated from Emerson High School in 1961, honorably served in the United States Air Force 1962-1966, and graduated from Purdue University in 1971 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He began his career with Inland Steel Company in the Electrical Department, Process Automation, and #5 Boiler House during the Northward Expansion. In 1984 he joined the CCM (Continuous Cold Mill) team; he was Project Engineer in 1989 for I/N Tek and Project Manager for I/N Kote in 1998. Ray retired in 1998 to enjoy his family and love of golf. His experience, however, called him to Superior Engineering in Hammond, IN from 2002-2014 working as Project Manager on the BP Amoco expansion. Ray was strong supporter of Purdue University and an avid golfer and member of Sand Creek Country Club for 23 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton, IN. A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 4:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M at EDMONDS & EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 13, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, IN 46304 with Rev. Nate Edquist officiating.
