VIOLA REYNOLDS Obituary
The Lord is my light and my salvation… Psalms 27, 1 Longtime resident of Whiting, Indiana Viola Reynolds, at the age 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Born in Cullman County, Alabama, Viola was the daughter of Marie (née Brown) and Marion Wooten; she was the oldest of seven children. Viola attended Decatur High school class of 1946. Viola married Edison Reynolds a WWII Marine veteran and son of Ella (née Burroughs) and WW Reynolds. In 1953 with their two children Tom and Becky they moved north eventually making their home in Whiting, Indiana. Viola was active within her community and with the Whiting and Hoffman Street Southern Baptist churches. She was a passionate and generous gardener, a staunch Republican, a constant volunteer, an avid Cubs fan and a devoted supporter of the Whiting Oilers. Viola was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Edison Reynolds; twin grandchildren Sarah & Jacob Grenchik; sister-in-law Judith (née Spanburg) Wooten of Birmingham, AL; brothers-in-law Gene Stephens of Whiting, IN and James Travers of Priceville, AL. Viola was blessed with many friends, and none so close as the late Irene Banik and Delores Mohr of Whiting, IN. Viola is remembered by her son Thomas Reynolds of Schererville and Rebecca Reynolds (Joe Grenchik) of Williamsburg, MI; grandsons Aaron Grenchik of Traverse City, MI, Adam Reynolds of Texas and one granddaughter Amanda Reynolds of Las Vegas, NV. Viola's great-grandchildren are Katelyn and McKenzie Barrera (Reynolds) and Shane Bush (Reynolds) of Las Vegas, NV; Eden, Claire, Olivia, Aage, Stella and Julia Grenchik of Traverse City, MI; sisters Dorothy (Charles) MacMeans of Dallas, TX, Shirley Stephens and Mary Lou (Clifford) Bartlett both of Whiting, Demaris Travers of Priceville, AL; brothers Clifford Wooten of Murfreesboro, TN and Bill (Betty) Wooten of Birmingham, AL. Viola was especially close to her nephew Jeffery Smith of Hammond and niece Brenda Smith of Schererville. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; visitation will be on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the funeral home from 6:00 to 9:00 pm; a Christian Burial will take place Monday, November 17, 2014 at 10:00 am from the Baran Funeral Home with Pastor Max Mercer of the Whiting Baptist Church, officiating; interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Tommy ,Becky, I know I don't have to tell you how much Aunt Bola meant to me in my life as a child and an adult. There are so many memories of her and I going to Cubs game , going on field trips when she drove the school bus, going to the dime store and sitting at the counter having a shake. Every memory is instilled in my mind that I will never forget her. There have so many people that have told me over the last few days how special she was. I love you Aunt Viola and I miss you very much.

I was browsing today's obituaries and was instantly drawn to the photo of the vibrant, joyful lady in this obituary! I didn't know Viola, but as her sister in Christ, I shall one day meet her. Ed & Viola were two very special people, whom we remember with loving thoughts. Viola was a very active member of Whiting Baptist church throughout my childhood,and Ed assisted at our wedding, nearly 54 years ago.
