Memories and Condolences
for Henry Grover

Not sure what to say?

Although I was not a good high school student, I really enjoyed learning history from Mr. Grover at Lamar High School in Houston.

He is mostly responsible for my love of history today. I am a member of the Sons of the Confederacy, Austin's Old 300, and the History Channel is the most watched channel in my house. Thank you, Mr. Grover.

The last of my four uncles to pass away, Hank was young and strong most of his life. The last time I visited him (2002?) he was dressed to kill, looked sharp as a tack and took a sincere interest in my military endeavors in the Philippines. I will remember him always as I will my aunt kay and all my cousins. I'm proud to be his nephew. Aloha Hank!

Growing up in the '60's in Houston as one of Uncle Hank's nephews was as close to having James Bond in the family as one could get. His vigor, glamour and love for us cousins was such an inspiration. We loved him dearly and will cherish many fond memories of our adventures together at the Grover homes.

Deepest condolences to Kay and all the children and grandchildren.

What an interesting man! My favorite memories - being taken by he and Kay along with brother Greg to a special session of the State of Texas Legislature. Getting to sit on the house floor with the other representatives. Seeing and hearing VP LBJ who introduced the president of Pakistan to the assembly. That & his 1972 campaign for governor. He was such a great speaker. He loved animals, and had many, and I remember most of all the boxer 'Wolfgang', whom we nieces hated because he slobbered on us. And talking to him about politics and the state of the world. He will be remembered fondly by his family, former students and countless others.

Uncle Hank was a huge influence and participant in my life growing up in Houston. My love to Aunt Kay and the kids for a very special and unique memory.
