WOODMAN--George.
The painter, photographer, and writer George Woodman (1932-2017), died at his home in New York City on March 23rd. He was married in 1953 to the artist Betty Woodman. Both their children, Francesca and Charles, also became artists. Betty, Charles, his wife Andrea, and their son Alexander survive George. Educated at Philips Exeter Academy, Harvard College, and the University of New Mexico, George taught at the University of Colorado until 1995. In 1968 the Woodmans bought a farmhouse property near Florence and have spent part of each year there ever since. In 1980 they acquired a loft in New York City, where they moved permanently in 1995. Broadly erudite, well-traveled, and memorably kind and compassionate, George will be deeply missed by a multitude of students, fellow artists, and friends in Europe and the US.

Betty,
I am deeply sorry for your loss. What you two shared lives on, for your love of art and your love for each other was one in the same. My deepest sympathies are with you and your family at this difficult time.

George had an enormous impact on my artistic life and the development of critical thinking. His humor, wisdom and camaraderie live always in my heart. I'll forever treasure those years learning from both Betty and George at CU, circa 85-87. My deepest sympathies

George was one of the first people to treat me as an adult and a peer. The graduate seminars held on Wednesday nights at your house were a memorable experience. We were all so important back then. His art colored the imagination and lifted the spirit. He was tremendously influential to so many of us. Love, Connie Jenkins

my condolences to the family Woodman. Be happy and comfort each other Matthew 5:4. "LOVE is the perfect bond of union" according Colossians 3:14 just the way your paintings united your family. Take care!
