FRANK FURIO

1930 - 2021

FURIO--Frank J., of the Village of Red Hook - age 90, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Frank was born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 14, 1930 to Joseph and Angelina Russo Furio. He grew up in Brooklyn and often described it as idyllic. After serving in the Army, he graduated from the Cooper Union in New York City. He continued to live and work there as a freelance graphic artist for most of his adult life. He and his wife, Victoria, moved to Red Hook in 2000. Blessed with a world-class baritone voice, he sang occasionally at the Amato Opera in New York City. He loved to sing opera - morning, noon or night. His life was about opera, art and family. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Mayes, his sister, Marilyn Calta of Bay Shore, NY, and his children and their spouses: Claudia (Robert Bott) of San Rafael, CA; Francesca (Jamie Graham) of Madison, CT; Andrea (Michael Hanson) of Clinton Corners, NY; Christina (Mark Butkowski) of Souderton, PA; Frank (Sora Furio) of Felton, DE; and Carla Furio of Rhinebeck, NY. He is also survived by his stepson, Nicholas Mayes Sopkin; eleven grandchildren; six great-grand- children; his niece Angela Calta Ritchie; and his nephews Charles Calta and Christopher Calta and their children and spouses. He loved them all. He is predeceased by his son Paul and his first wife, his children's mother, Christina Hingul Furio. There will be a gathering at a later date to celebrate his life.
