ALBERTA B. SZALITA

SZALITA--Dr. Alberta B., the Polish born Jewish intellectual who became one of New York's most influential psychoanalytic teachers and theorists, died on Wednesday November 10, 2010. She was 100 years old. A survivor of the Holocaust, Dr. Szalita began her psychoanalytic work at Chestnut Lodge. Frieda Fromm-Reichmann has been quoted as saying that her first referral choice for a loved one in trouble would always be Alberta Szalita. She was a Training and Supervising Analyst at the White Institute and Columbia University. She helped to establish psychoanalytic institutes in Israel and Norway. Her writings include perspectives on empathy, reanalysis, schizophrenia, and psychotherapy, which she labeled psychointegration. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 11:15am. It will take place at the Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, NY. The service will begin promptly at 11:15am. Attendees are urged to arrive no later than 11:00am.
