Simon Scott Obituary

1966 - 2014
Simon John Scott, Artist and Musician, age 48. Beloved son of Marie Scott, nephew to James Watson. Honorary member of the Blake, Pratt and Kirkbride families; friend and mentor to artists, writers and musicians from northern England to the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Born in County Durham, England in 1966, "Scotty" moved to London at the age of 16, where he sang and played guitar in a variety of bands, including Kutz, The Edge and Southern Fly, and finally Simon Scott and the Band of Infidels. He recorded several albums in Europe and the U.S. A gifted painter and multi-media designer, Scott moved to New York City in 2001 and in 2006 founded a design firm that specialized in bespoke paintings, promotional logos, murals, calligraphy, signage and other commercial artwork. His work lives on inside dozens of New York City taverns and restaurants. Scott was full with life, and drew a wide range of friends into his orbit wherever he went. Charming and funny, loyal, kind, wicked of wit and unpredictable, his spirit burned bright to the last. Rest in peace, Scotty. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 12th from 7 to 9pm at N.F. Walker Funeral Home at 87-34 80th Street, Woodhaven, Queens, NY 11421. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 13th at the Church of St. Monica at 413 East 79th Street, New York, NY. Scott will be laid to rest in Westhampton Beach, New York. Donations in Scott's name can be made to the Visiting Nurse Service of New York at 1250 Broadway, 7th floor, New York, N.Y. 10001.

I remember you and your mum walking to church every Sunday. I remember our first day at school together, aged 5. I remember your teenage rebellion and your individual sense of style in a very small town! But most of all Simon, I remember that you were never cruel to anyone - never called anyone names. Always kind and gentle in nature. Passionate and driven and not afraid to be yourself. I'm glad you followed your heart and lived the life you did. I'm sure your light will shine on. Goodnight and God Bless. X
