When Tony and Bob Gottlieb went from S&S to AAK and announced that they would do their own sub rights, I as new boy in the RH/AAK sub rights department was given my walking papers.
As soon as Tony heard about my predicament, he introduced himself and asked whether he could make a few phone calls on my behalf. He did so, and that's how I ended up heading World Publishing's rights department.
Tony was a real mensch. May his memory serve as a blessing.

Truly a role model for succeeding generations, Tony brought magisterial warmth, compassion, and passion to his work as a Board member of the Osborne Association and was deeply loved and cherished by the Board and staff alike. The tederness of his heart touched us all.

Tony Schulte was one of the good people in book publishing. Bright, charming, and generous, he was the public face of Alfred A. Knopf for many years.
I know I'm not alone in missing his presence in the publishing world.
