ANTHONY WALTON Obituary

WALTON--Anthony J., 76, of New York City, died on January 18, 2019 after a long illness. Survived by his loving family, including his wife Jennifer, sister Jill, sons Charlie and Philip, their mother Susan and two grandchildren. Born in London, Tony was educated in the United States, earning a BA in English Literature from Haverford College and an MBA from the Wharton School. Tony's gifts for relationship building and strategic planning laid the foundation for his long career in international finance. He retired in 2017 as Vice Chairman, Americas, at Standard Chartered Bank, where he continued to serve as Senior Advisor to the Bank for the next year. He began his career at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, and held multiple assignments worldwide including his last role as Senior Vice President and CEO of the Global Trade Finance Group. After Chase, Tony managed the Americas for Westpac Banking Corporation and rose to be Chief General Manager, Americas and Europe while also serving on the Bank's main Board of Directors in Sydney, Australia. Tony was very active in the non-profit world, devoting considerable amounts of his time and resources to Episcopal Charities of New York, Asia Society, Council on Foreign Relations, American Australian Association, and The Volcker Alliance, among others. His love for his dog Betsy, gardening, landscaping, wildlife photography, and fly-fishing were all expressions of his passion for nature. A lifelong patron of the arts, inveterate traveler, and generous of spirit, Tony was a legendary raconteur with a host of devoted friends from all walks of life. Tony will be greatly missed by all he touched in his personal and professional lives, both in the United States and abroad. A memorial service will be held in the spring, and donations in his memory may be sent to Episcopal Charities of New York or The World Wildlife Fund.

Tony, I miss you. I miss chatting over dinner about finance and Chinese politics while drinking several bottles of your favoite Sancerre wine. I miss spending time with you and Jenn high up in the Adirondacks. I miss your big smile and your warm and welcoming personality. Rest in peace my friend.

For some reason I can't quite remember now, Tony called me Pauluuch and I called him Antonuuch...he regaled one and all with his delightful anecdotes and instead of being business partners, we just became good friends. As all the souls he touched, I will miss him greatly. Words are inadequate tools at a time like this so my heartfelt condolences are sent to his dear wife and family. May my friend Antonuuch rest in eternal peace.

While I haven't seen Tony in over 20 years, I remember well his humor, intelligence and discretion. His insight about adversaries, particularly, were keen. My respects. Nick

Deepest sympathy to the entire family on this very sad loss. Tony certainly enjoyed being in his beloved Adirondacks with his dog, Betsy. It won't be the same without him. He was a remarkable man with so many interests. With sympathy and caring.
