I am realizing now that Lewis´s father passed. I did not know the man but I am sure he is missed. Much love to you Lewis and to your ancestors.

We were heartbroken to learn of the death of Cass Canfield, Jr., who will be greatly missed, both personally and professionally, in the publishing world and by the many scholars whose work he supported and advanced. Cass became our editor back in 1981, when he uniquely saw the merit in our first co-edited book, Feminism and Art History: Questioning the Litany (13 other presses had turned it down), and as it turned out, he was right to bet on that book. With his incomparable editorial intuition and vision, Cass persuaded us of the need for a sequel volume, which he guided and published. He then encouraged us to publish a third volume, and continued to do so even after his retirement, when he knew he would not be the one to see it through. As we said in the preface to that third volume, “Cass's vision has been a continuing inspiration to us throughout the creation of all three books and, were it not a gender stereotype, we would gladly call him our muse.” We, too, mourn his passing.

I am so glad to have known this brilliant and charming man and so sorry at his family's and the world's loss. May he rest in peace.
