CHARLES BAIRD Obituary

BAIRD--Charles F., former chairman of INCO Limited, the Canadian metals and mining company, died December 26th at his Skillman, New Jersey home. He was 87 years old. Mr. Baird graduated from Middlebury College in 1944 and served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. Prior to his time with INCO, he served as Assistant Secretary and then Under Secretary of the Navy and in executive positions with Exxon. He was the chairman of the board of both Bucknell University and the Center for Naval Analysis and served on the boards of Aetna, the Bank of Montreal, the Logistics Management Institute and the Marine Corps University Foundation. A devoted racquets enthusiast and competitor, he won 23 national senior titles in platform tennis. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Norma White, four children, Susan Creyke, Stephen Baird, Charles Baird Jr. and Nancy Harwood and eight grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held next July in Bridgehampton, New York. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Bucknell University for the Baird Family Scholarship, c/o the Development Office, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
