YOUNG--Charles W., MD (Charlie), born November 19, 1930 in Denver, CO, died peacefully at his Manhattan home on December 31, 2018. A distinguished medical oncologist, Charlie graduated from Columbia College (1952) and Harvard Medical School (1956). During his 42-year tenure at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Charlie served as Chief, Developmental Chemotherapy Service (1979-1992); Head, Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory, Sloan-Kettering Institute (1979-1993); and Professor of Medicine, Cornell University Medical College (1982-1999). Charlie was also an advisor to the American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute. To his patients, Charlie was caring and kind. To his colleagues, he was known for his innovative approaches to cancer treatment. To his family, Charlie was a source of strength and wisdom. We miss him sorely. Charlie is survived by his wife, Helene; sons, Stephen (Sara) and Matthew; stepchildren, Bonnie and Benjamin (Lily). He was predeceased by his eldest son, Michael and sister, Jean.
