Children's Aid mourns the passing of Charlton Yarnall Phelps, trustee and longtime advocate for New York City children. Charlton served on the Children's Aid board for more than 50 years. She was the first woman to be elected to the board in 1965. She went on to become the first woman elected board president, where she served from 1975-1981. She was a devoted supporter of women's rights and ensuring that all young people have the chance to reach their potential. She was cherished for her soft-spoken wisdom and unwavering generosity. Our hearts go out to her family, particularly her two children, Sophia and Meredith, her five grandchildren, and seven great-grand- children. Phoebe C. Boyer, President and CEO; Iris Abrons, Chair, and the Children's Aid Board of Trustees
