SMITHERS--Christopher B. Columbia University Irving Medical Center celebrates the life and mourns the passing of Christopher B. Smithers, whose extraordinary leadership and generosity has been transformative to the research and treatment of substance use disorders. The Smithers Family has long been a source of knowledge and support for enhanced awareness and better treatment for substance abuse. More recently with support provided by the Christopher D. Smithers Foundation, Columbia Psychiatry established The Smithers Center to provide world-class medical treatment for alcohol and other substance use disorders co- occurring with psychiatric disorders. We mourn and will miss our partner Christopher and on behalf of our CUIMC colleagues and the families we help, we offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife Nikki, their children, and extended family.
