LAFER--Claire (Shane),

of Pompton Plains, NJ died peacefully at home at the age of 97 after a short illness. Claire (and her late twin sister, Adele) was born in Newark, NJ in April 1921, six weeks after her parents arrived in the U.S. from Russia. During World War II, she worked in the Signal Corp where she met Captain Louis Lafer; they were married in 1944 and had three children, Sandra (Stephen) Greenberg, Barry (Jill) Lafer, and Alan (Susan) Lafer. They remained married for 53 years until his death in 1997. She was an avid golfer and became a member of the Hole- in-One Club having achieved a perfect shot in 1988 at Palm Beach National. Claire was deeply devoted to her three children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will honor Claire's life in a private graveside ceremony. She will be deeply missed by all.
