DAVID SIEGFRIED Obituary

SIEGFRIED--David Charles. Age 78, died peacefully at his home in Short Hills, NJ on February 2, 2021. Born in New York City, he grew up in Madison, NJ. Widely admired for his keen intellect and integrity, he was a true gentleman and his generosity, kindness, patience, and loyalty took him far in life both personally and professional-ly. He possessed an avid interest and curiosity that made him a wonderful conversationalist and a cherished friend. Known for his lifetime love of reading, he surrounded himself with books, and relished a lively or thoughtful discussion about something he had read. A summa cum laude graduate of Princeton University, he was a proud member of the Class of '64 and a competitive member of the track team. His involvement with Princeton was always rewarding and he served on numerous university committees and boards, ultimately becoming President of the Alumni Association, 2008-2009. He competed throughout his life in track events and received special recognition from the Friends of Princeton Track. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1967 and after time spent in the New Jersey National Guard, went on to become a partner in the firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy where his practice area was International Banking. His career took him to Asia where he was the Partner-in-Charge of the Hong Kong office from 1979-1983 and where he opened and led the Singapore office from 1985-1988. After retirement, his lifelong passion for history became evident as he served as President of the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society, served as Vice-Chairman of the Millburn Township Historic Preservation Commission, and served as Vice President of Crossroads of the American Revolution. In 2012 he received the Millburn Township Community Service Award. He was a member of Community Congregational Church in Short Hills, the Short Hills Club, Baltusrol Golf Club, and the Hillsboro Club in Hillsboro Beach, FL. Dave will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Stephanie, a sister, Susan Cerciello, two daughters, Karin Treadwell and Christine Rampe (Kevin), and eight grandchildren. Contributions in his memory may be made to the "Princeton Class of 1964 Scholarship Fund." Please contact [email protected] for further information. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
