Obituary

MERNIT--Dee-Ann. Passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, Mother's Day, at age 94. It was fitting, in a bittersweet way, because she was such a wonderful mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She was also a loving wife to her husband, Richard Mernit, for 62 years. Warm, witty and wise, she was full of energy; a vivacious, gracious hostess and instant companion to anyone who came into her orbit. Dee- Ann taught kindergarten for 18 years in the Lawrence-Inwood school district in Nassau County, NY. Later in life, with her cousin, Blanche Ross, she began one of the first national speakers' bureaus for women, Ross Associates. She is survived by her sons, John and Billy; her daughters-in-law, Kathy O'Dell and Judith Lewis Mernit; and her granddaughter, Lucy O'Dell Mernit; her brother, David Shulman, his wife, Louise and daughters, Karen Stolzenberg and Ellen Judson.
