Our hearts are broken but his spirit is embedded in all of us. Father of Tyler, Zachary, Kelsey, Darien, husband of Jill (Schwartzberg), son of Dr. Lawrence Shields and Gail (Shapiro), brother of Julie, adored friend. Born 1967, Vandenberg AF Base, CA, raised in Lawrence, LI, graduated NYU. Self-described "serial entrepreneur" and visionary founder of Esquire Bank, LawCash, Yield Street. Helped create the American Legal Finance Association. Philanthropist. Author of God Went Fishing and The Urgency of Now. Dennis had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, encyclopedic mind, brilliant wit. A storied raconteur, his own fiction best describes him: "A handsome kind man who led an idyllic life, often offensive, sometimes poignant, occasionally edifying and always funny. " "Some say he has the mind of an Einstein, the wit of Oscar Wilde, and the good looks of a movie star. Others don't. He is a citizen of the world."
