COVERT--E. Richard,

passed away on Sunday, May 27 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Angela, their son Christopher, daughter-in law, Suzanne, the lights of his life, granddaughters, Sadie Rose (seven) and Ella Rose(six), and a sister, Isobel Seubert. Dick, as he was known to family and friends, received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Oneonta, a Master's Degree from Indiana University (Indiana) and a Doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University. Between Undergraduate college and Graduate school, he served for four years in the US Navy during the Korean War. For nearly 30 years he was a member of the Faculty and Administrative Staff at Queens College of CUNY, 10 years as Dean of Students, before retiring in 1992. He continued his involvement with Queens College as Chair of the Scholarship Committee of the Queens College Retirees Association. He was known as a wise, kind and gentle person, loved by colleagues and students alike, and he will be deeply missed by all. An E. Richard Covert Memorial Scholarship has been established to honor his memory at the Queens College Foundation, 65-30 Kissena Blvd., Queens, NY 11367.
