Eve K Winer

1932 - 2018
Eve K Winer, PhD, 85, of Flushing, NY died unexpectedly on February 5th at St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, NY.

She joins Leon Winer, PhD, her husband of 55 years, who died in 2009.

Loving mother of son Peter, daughter-in-law Alice, son David. Adoring grandmother of Emma, Sophie and Harry. Brother to the late Kenneth Kiesler, daughter of Rudy Kiesler and Lucie Schmidt Kiesler. Niece of German author Arno Schmidt.

Born Eve Kiesler, in Lauban, Germany on August 20, 1932. Emigrated to the US as a child.

She had a PhD in school psychology from Hofstra.

She worked as a school psychologist in Great Neck and Westbury, NY. In later years she had a private psychology practice in her house in Flushing.

She grew up in Rockaway, Queens. Always a beach person.

An avid skier, hiker, world traveler. Mets fan. She loved hiking, yoga and meditation.

She was a blogger, http://evespeeves.wordpress.com/.

Dr. Winer was politically active her whole life. A friend to many. Searching for the meaning of it all. Survivor. She fought for what's right.

She was a frequent contributor to the New York Times Letters to the Editor page. When her son David met the LTOE editor in a meeting at the Times office, he asked if he was related to Eve.

She appeared on the front page of the NYT once, walking her son Peter to the first integrated school in Corona, Queens in 1964.

She loved her cat, even though she was terribly allergic.

She wanted to die on her own terms. She did.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to nycaudubon.org.

Her remains will be cremated. Pay respects on Saturday, February 8 at 1PM at Gleason Funeral Home.
