KERSON--Florence Shoch,

93, passed away on December 10 in Riverdale, New York. In her declining years, she was cared for with utmost devotion by Jerome Kerson, her loving husband of 71 years. Florence, a graduate of Hunter College and the University of Chicago, brought empathy and understanding for families and children to her career as a social worker in New York City schools and hospitals. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, and valued friend to many. We will miss her sharp wit, her love and laughter and her engagement with the world. She was preceded in death by father Henry, mother Hannah and brother David and by uncles, aunts and cousins who were victims of the Holocaust: Rachel Schoichet, Esther Natalia Dembina, Hippolite, Roma and Mary Gielzyinski; Frieda Dembina, Tadek, and Jurek Shlajen; and Mary Dembina, Hipolit, Olga and Janina Zydranski. Florence is survived by Jerome; sons Paul, Don and Roger; daughters-in-law Marleen Kassel, Roslynn Glicksman and Robin Kaplan, grandchildren Deborah, Ben, Julia, Henry, Abigail, Sarah and Astrid; great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Sylvia, Cassidy and Lucy; nephews James and John Shoch and nieces Sydelle Kramer and Marian Whitaker.
