LIN--Fu Hai, February 15, 1926 - April 30, 2018. Fu Hai died in Staten Island, NY. He was a virologist and discoverer of reverse transcriptase protein, for which some of his contemporaries received the

Nobel Prize. This revolutionized medicine and is used in HIV, Alzheimer's, measles and cancer research. He was born in Tao Lin Village, Zhang Zhou, China to father, Quan and mother, Wang. He fled China during the Communist Revolution and received his BS - National Taiwan University, MS - West Virginia University and PhD - Rutgers University. He worked for over 30 years at New York State Institute for Basic Research in Staten Island. Fu Hai was a founder and president of the Chinese American Club of Staten Island and 1st principal of its Chinese school. He is survived by wife Ruth, five children Nancy, Alan, Boris, Calvin and David, son-in-law Mark Smith, daughters-in-law Yvonne, Courtney, and seven grandchildren Marquessa Kate, Alexander, Brianna, Rebecca, Emily, Anna and Sophie. Open house/memorial Sunday, May 27: 2-5pm, Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island (SI).
